A tournament announcement goes to six languages
You're a community manager for a global game. It's noon on Friday and an announcement just went out in English, Spanish, German, Japanese, French, and Korean with the weekend tournament information. After finalizing that post, you check the moderation queue and begin reviewing the latest batch of flagged chat messages, each requiring a manual decision.
The translation work here is operational. Live chat, moderation queues, policy messaging, and event announcements all demand consistent and reliable cross-lingual support. Messages between users need low-latency translation to keep up with fast-paced action whereas moderation responses may require translations to consider context when ensuring fair decisions.
Why moderation language has to be exact
When a moderator reviews flagged chat messages in another language, prior chat messages that could provide context may not be appropriately considered. Moderation responses that incorrectly translate usernames or ban reasons may lead to more confusion.
Maintaining consistent language throughout a community is critical to ensure that no one feels left out due to a language barrier.
What the Lexel Translate API covers
- Low-latency synchronous translation for live communication.
POST /api/v1/translatereturns one translation synchronously, which is what chat and moderation replies use. See the translate docs. - Stable placeholder and term handling.
do_not_translateprotects usernames, commands, and platform vocabulary, andpreserve_placeholdersdetects placeholder-like values without rewriting the source text. Both are covered in the translate docs. - Prior sentence context .
ps_contextallows user-specific context to be included when translating content so prior messages can be considered when making difficult moderation decisions. - Moderation-safe auditing. Every request carries a caller-provided
request_idthat is echoed in responses and logs, alongside anymetadatayou attach. A moderation decision can be traced back to the exact message and translation. - Asynchronous jobs for exports and archives.
POST /api/v1/translate/asyncqueues background work, and completion can be delivered to a webhook. See the async docs and the webhooks docs.
Browser workflow and API automation
Community teams usually need both:
- A quick browser workflow to verify a translation before it goes out. The playground runs requests without code.
- API-based automation for the operational paths: chat translation, announcement publishing, and the moderation pipeline.
Set up the automation first, and keep the browser workflow for the moments that need a human call. Both paths apply the same stored glossaries and protection settings, so the browser lookup and the API-based automation produce the same translation.
What changes
Announcements publish in every language on schedule and with fewer mistakes caused by manual copying between documents. Flagged chat is reviewed with a more complete context, and the request_id trail points back to the exact source message. /invite stays /invite in every language.
